The Swedish Bitters Formula
The formula for Swedish Bitters was first discovered in the 16th century in the records of a Swedish physician, Philippus Paracelsus.
Three centuries later, another Swedish physician, Claus Samst, rediscovered these notes and documented 45 different conditions that his herbal mixture was believed to help address—many of the common ailments of that time.
The kind doctor lived to the remarkable age of 104, eventually passing away after a riding accident. Over time, the herbal preparation became widely known as Swedish Bitters.
In the late 20th century, Austrian herbalist Maria Treben became a legendary figure in the field of natural medicine. Her lifetime of research using Dr. Samst’s formula was summarized in her famous book Health Through God’s Pharmacy. Through her work, millions of people around the world discovered Swedish Bitters and embraced the idea that there can be natural alternatives to relying solely on modern chemical-based medicines.
We are proud to say that our Swedish Bitters is carefully prepared according to the authentic formula restored by Maria Treben based on the original writings of Dr. Samst.
This traditional preparation combines 11 valuable herbs that have been known to positively support human health since around 1550.
